Race Report Aintree 20th September (Round 5, Aintree MC)
A great day weather wise as the sun was shining as soon as we got there nice and early, all set up early and had time to sit back before practice.
Out for practice and was feeling a bit rusty after only having a short bit of track time the last time out, practice felt good but still felt i wasnt quite on the pace, but ive felt that a few times before on the practice and tend to feel better when it comes to the race.
First race was the superbike race so a good mix of different power bikes, 19th on the grid but was only a grid of about 15 so was at the back, had a decent start but led a pretty lonely race and finished in 11th, but i was happy that i broke my previous lap record from earlier in the year by just under a second.
Second race was the first of the formula 600 races, was on the grid in 38th on a full grid so i definately had a lot of work if i wanted to get anywhere. After a fantastic start i passed more than 10 people on the first lap and for the remaining laps i was having a great battle with 2 others and ended up finishing ahead of them and finally finishing in 14th place so was a race i much enjoyed and felt good about myself and the bike, although a touch slower lap times i think that was more down to the battles i had.
Third race was the second superbike race which i had qualified for the championship race i was 22nd on the grid, once again a great start but before the end of the lap it was red flagged as there had been a major crash on beechers which is a very fast corner, so due to the clean up of oil and to get the injured into the ambulance it was a bit of wait before we restarted the race. On the restarted race i again had a good start and again had some good battles, although on the last lap i felt i was getting slower and loosing pace, although still finished 16th after loosing a few places on the last lap.
Fourth and final race of the day i was looking forward to which was the second formula 600 race which i had obviously qualified for the championship race after a great first race. Off from the start and pulled ahead a few places putting myself in about 7th and was holding a good pace again having a good few battles but once again on the last lap i lost a few places and felt i didnt have the pace but still finished in a very pleasing 10th place which is my best championship race result yet and also bettered my fastest lap by another 1.4 seconds.
After the final race realising that after a few laps in each race i must of been boiling my front brakes and loosing feeling, when i finally sussed it and tried my front brake the lever was coming back to the bar nearly i think i lost out but even so i was still very happy with the day even with a problem that wasnt noticed straight away so a few changes for the next time out!
