Race Report Aintree 9th August (Round 4, Aintree MC)

Well after such a long time off track we were looking forward to a good days racing today, done the usual setting up once at aintree, the sun was out (even at 6.30 in the morning) and the weather was looking good for the day, untill an hour before practice started and it started to rain alittle, then more rain and more.

Practice was obviously going to be wet so on went the wets, by the time i got out there it was soaking wet and still coming down hard so was alittle nervous, although once out there apart from not seeing very much the bike was feeling good.

First race of the day was still a wet race and i was 7th on the grid although the grid was alittle bare so i was actually about third, off we went and fell back to 5th, since not having much wet track time experience especially this wet i wasnt being a hero and just kept it steady, after a few laps i was still 5th and wasnt far behind oliver riley who i knew wasnt slow so just kept it calm, with getting a bit more condifdent in the wet conditions i pushed it a touch more and closed the gap on oliver then towards the end of lap 5 i think it was up came the red flags and the race was stopped!

Later on i checked the time sheet and i finished fourth in the end!

Unfortunately after that race (was race 4 overall) the organisers decided to have an early dinner because of the amount of standing water on the track so we had just over an hour to see what the weather would do.

But after the wait in the pooring rain it was pretty obvious the track wasnt going to get any better and they called the rest of the meeting off.

So a short and disapointing day that was decided by the weather, lets just hope round 5 at aintree next month is drier!
